Most sustainability pages are written to be reassuring. This one is written to be checkable: exactly what we do today, and exactly what we are working on next.

Refills at 20% off
Bring a bottle back to the dairy in Frome and we refill it for a fifth less than the bottled price. The glass and the aluminium collar are built to outlast the liquid several times over.

Uncoated board, no cellophane
Cartons are uncoated FSC board printed with vegetable inks, and they are recyclable as ordinary paper. There is no shrink-wrap, because the only thing it does is look sealed.

Carbon-balanced delivery
Every UK parcel goes out on Royal Mail's carbon-balanced service, and the offset is bought through Woodland Trust UK planting rather than an overseas credit of uncertain provenance.

Synthetics where they are kinder
We use synthetic musk rather than anything from an animal, and synthetic sandalwood rather than Mysore. This is not a compromise — in both cases the lab material is the better and the more consistent one.
The bottle is the expensive part
Glass, the aluminium collar and the pump account for a real share of what a bottle costs to make — and all three are good for years. Throwing them away every time the liquid runs out is the wasteful part of this industry, not the perfume.
So a refill is 20% cheaper than a new bottle. That is not a gesture: it is roughly what we save by not making the packaging again, passed on.

What we are working on
- Measured, not estimated
- We report what we can evidence: delivery is carbon-balanced through verified UK planting. Rather than buy a neutrality badge, we are measuring blending and freight properly first, and we will publish those figures once they are audited.
- A lighter bottle
- Glass is the heaviest thing we ship. Refills already cut that for returning customers, and we are testing lighter flacons that hold their quality — we will switch the moment one is good enough to carry our name.
- Refills beyond Frome
- Refills are in person today, because decanting extrait in transit is not something we can guarantee the quality of. We are working on a sealed refill format so the same 20% saving reaches customers who cannot visit.
